1a. Never mix more epoxy then you can apply within the pot-life printed on the label.
1b. Never apply product that is starting to "kick", "Gel" or is getting too hot.
2. Epoxies have shorter pot-life as the daily temperature rises. Increase of 10 degrees Fahrenheit above the average 77 degrees Fahrenheit will usually shorten the pot-life by 5 minutes. The longer the mixed product stays in the mixing bucket and the higher the amount of mixed product will dramatically shorten the pot-life if it stays in mixing bucket too long. After properly mixing try to apply/spread the product as fast as possible for more working time. Preparation is everything, applying most of our products usually does not take long.
3. Always mix the epoxy according to the proportions listed on the the containers, varying the amount of hardener is permissible on certain products but you should always stick to the recommended ratios.
4. If you don't know what you are doing, try a test spot or give us a call for any advice or check out the Epoxy Message Board.
5. In applying epoxy putties, the surface can be lubricated and smoothed by wetting the applicator spreader, a damp sponge or keeping yours hands wet with water. It will save you time in sanding and fairing.
6. Always wear gloves when handling epoxies. Some people are allergic to epoxy and it can cause a skin rash
7. Mixing is very important. When mixing epoxy , you should use what is called "Boxing Technique" Mix your 2 components together then pour into another container and mix again. Scraping the sides and bottom of the container is very important
8. Improperly mixed proportions or failing to mix thoroughly by scraping side of mixing container and bottom of container will cause soft or sticky cure.
9. Most epoxies can not be used below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
10. Epoxy will not stick to dirty, oily, hard, shiny or flaking surfaces or pressure treated wood. Surface preparation is very important.
11. If you store unused epoxies for a long period of time, mix each can separately before combining the 2 parts together.
